Alabama Salesperson Licensing Education Requirements

Requirements to obtain a Salesperson License:

  1. Be at least 19 years old
  2. Be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident
  3. Show proof of bona fide residency in any state in the U.S.
  4. Show proof of high school graduation or equivalent
  5. Not have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude
  6. Complete 60 Hours of Required Education- within one year of purchase. **Due to current pandemic, this rule is not being enforced at this time, no future deadline exists.
  7. Take the Alabama and National Licensing Exam (for any questions go to www.pearsonvue.com ) within six months of passing pre license course.
  8. Apply for the state license within 90 days of your exam date, or the exam is null and void. Application are located at http://www.arec.alabama.gov

Alabama Broker Licensing Education Requirements

Requirements to Obtain a Broker's License:

  1. Be at least 19 years old
  2. Be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident
  3. Show proof of bona fide residency in any state in the U.S.
  4. Show proof of high school graduation or equivalent
  5. Not have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude

  7. Take the Alabama Broker Exam
  8. Must have held an active salesperson license in any state for at least 24 months of the 36 months immediately preceding the date of application.
  9. Complete, sign and submit the Broker licensing application provided by the Alabama Real Estate Commission along with the required fee.

Salesperson Post-Licensing Education Requirements

Education Requirements to renew a salesperson license for the 1st time:

  1. Complete the 30 hour post license course for salesperson within the first six months of licensure for active licensees and within one year for inactive licensees. *Due to current pandemic, no submission of license as Salesperson is required and they will not be forced to inactive status. 
  2. No Post License requirement for Brokers
  3. The Original Salesperson license deadline requires the proper application to be completed and submitted with payment after completing the post license course.

Salesperson Continuing Education Requirements

Every two years a total of 15 clock hours of continuing education is required to renew an active license to consist of:

  1. 3 hours in Commission-approved Risk Management courses
  2. Two 12 hour in Commission-approved courses

Broker Continuing Education Requirements

Every two years a total of 15 clock hours of continuing education is required to renew an active license to consist of:

  1. 3 hours in Commission-approved Risk Management courses
  2. 3 hours in the Commission-approved Broker course
  3. 9 hours in Commission-approved courses

UPDATE EFFECTIVE 6/8/20:

The Commission is aware that many people have had problems scheduling the license exam since the exam sites reopened on May 1. We have been sharing all known problems with PSI so proper changes can be made.

  • One specific problem is unanswered calls when exam candidates call 800-345-6559, which is the number PSI has always advertised and is included in the Candidate Handbook.
  • To assist with this problem, PSI is now offering another number for Alabama exam candidates to call when scheduling the license exam. This number is 888-818-5824.
  • This new number is currently identified on the homepage of the Commission's website along with other important information associated with changes resulting from COVID-19.
