Salesperson Pre Licensing Education Requirements

  1. Be at least 18 years old
  2. Be honest, truthful and of good reputation
  3. Be sponsored by an Ohio Broker
  4. Not have been convicted of a felony or a crime of moral turpitude.   5. Provide proof of a high school diploma or equivalent if born after 1950
  6. Complete the following education requirements:
    1. 40 hours- Real Estate Principles and Practices
    2. 40 hours- Ohio Real Estate Law (including instruction in civil rights, housing discrimination and desegregation problems)
    3. 20 Hours- Real Estate Appraisal
    4. 20 hours- Real Estate Finance
  7. Submit completed application with fees
  8. Pass state and national exam

 

Broker Pre Licensing Education Requirements

  1. Applicants must hold an active salesperson license for 2 of the last 5 years and comply with the following requirements:
    1. If licensed before 1/1/1972, no further education is required
    2. If licensed after 1/1/1972 but before 1/03/1984, applicant must have taken the required 120 hours (courses 1-4 listed below)
    3. If licensed after 1/3/1984 applicants must taken courses 1-8 listed below and possess a minimum of 2 year post-secondary education (#9) or the equivalent hours of 60 semesters or 90 quarter hours.
  2. Education Requirements:
    1. Ohio Real Estate Law (40 hours)
    2. Ohio Real Estate Principles & Practices (40 hours)
    3. Real Estate Appraisal (20 hours)
    4. Real Estate Finance (20 hours)
    5. A Financial Management Course
    6. A Human Resources or Personnel Management course
    7. An Applied Business Economics course
    8. A Business Law Course
    9. A minimum of 2 years post-secondary education, or equivalent hours of 60 semesters or 90 quarter hours. Courses 5-8 may be included in your postsecondary education.
  3. Experience Requirements:
    1. The Division calculates the transactions to ensure the applicant meets the required amount.

Salesperson & Broker Post Licensing Education Requirements

  1. No later than 12 months after licensure, Salesperson licensees are required to submit proof that have completed 20 hours of education.

Salesperson Continuing Education Requirements

  1. Renewal periods are on licensees birthday occurring three years after the licensee’s date of initial licensure, and on or before the licensee’s birthday every 3 years thereafter.
  2. Renewals are done online through Elicensing system on or before due date
  3. Licensees must complete 30 hours of education to include:
    1. 9 hours including instruction in Ohio Real Estate law; recently enacted state and federal laws affecting the real estate industry, municipal, state, and federal civil rights law; and cannon of ethics for the real estate industry as adopted by the commission
  4. Pay any applicable fee

    2. 3 hour education on duties of a principal broker and other issue involved in operating a real estate brokerage.
